John 8:31-32 – 31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

What is Truth?

John 14:6 – Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

To know actual Truth (which is above our earthly experience), you must come to know the Person of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. He is the Word made flesh. He is seated beside the Father now as our great High Priest, in continual intercession for the Father’s will to be manifest in us as His children. Jesus is contending for our Victory: to come into the knowledge of God’s Truth. And His Truth—what He has intentioned for each life He has created—is born of His love for each one of us. This Truth is found in HIS Word, not the words or opinions of anyone else.

John 16:13 – When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth.

If we want to be free, we must be known by God. We must be willing to give the Holy Spirit access to our hearts. He does so, not to condemn us but to liberate us. Compassion is the heart of Jesus and without His compassion, we cannot face the pain in our hearts or lives. When we desire to be fully known by Him, we let Him expose the lies we’ve come into agreement with so that we may come fully into His Truth. This is LIBERATION!

1 John 1:6 – If we say that we have fellowship with Him and walk in darkness (hiding), we lie and do not practice the truth.

In our reading through the Bible in a year plan, we are in 2 Samuel 11-12 this week, and we will read of David’s HUGE mess, the consequences of his sin, His “getting caught” by God through Nathan the prophet, and of David’s repentance* that led to his freedom.

When God catches us in our sin, He removes the lies of shame and restores us to His Truth: that He alone is our righteousness and salvation comes from Jesus alone. That is where we come out of hiding into Love, acceptance, forgiveness, and restoration.

The Truth doesn’t condemn us, He frees us. I pray we will all give Him access to our hearts this week!

*To read of David’s repentance, see Psalm 51.
