For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Romans 14:17
When we walk inside of the kingdom of God we are walking in the Holy Spirit. In the Holy Spirit, we do not have to concern ourselves with issues of what is right or wrong, but only how do we walk in love, in any and all situations. If we choose love then the Lord has access to touch the person or situation with Himself and bring His grace into that situation. We live free knowing that it is not our responsibility to enforce His standards, but only to live in His freedom.
Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. Romans 12:19
What we get to do is enjoy His righteousness, peace and joy. When you think about it, these three attributes are what the world is seeking all the time. But, they seek it through law or rebellion, politics or religion, or personal self fulfillment, or… However, all these things are externals that can never give righteousness, peace and joy.
Righteousness, peace and joy are in Jesus, purchased for us through His death and resurrection. They are ours to enjoy both now and forever.
Righteousness feels like: “It’s alright.” That inward sense that things have been made right. All shall be well. Not a seeing, or enforcing, but a knowing. Jesus has made all things right. When we believe, we enter into His completeness, victory, and righteousness.
Peace feels like: “You’re safe.” No matter the battle, no matter the struggle, you win. Maybe not in the natural, maybe you lose in the natural, as you suffer wrong. But in Christ you are safe. Nothing can separate you from the love of God. You feel safe, the fear of death cannot force you into acting in self defense. Instead, the love of God enables you to lay down your soul life.
Joy feels like: “Cheer up.” Like the old song “Be Happy, Don’t Worry.” The freedom to be in joy and enjoy Christ even in tribulation is strength for today. Joy in the Holy Spirit is like a force of cheerful freedom overriding fear and worry.
Take a moment and enter into the kingdom of God right now, acknowledging the truth of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Worship Jesus for His victory entering into the Holy Spirit. Allow righteousness (It’s alright), peace (Your safe) and joy (Cheer up) to fill your emotions. You are in Christ. His victory is yours. Even when you cannot enforce it on the outside, you can live fully on the inside.
