In Genesis 30, we read about Jacob. Jacob was a man who gave himself fourteen years in his uncle’s home. This was to obtain, by his service, the dowry for Laban’s two daughters. He only wanted one of them, but Laban wanted him to have both. After fourteen years, Jacob just wanted to go home. Laban noticed that he prospered because Jacob was there. Laban told him to name his price. What was his wage?

Jacob had already had a dream prior to this conversation. They were herdsmen so they cared for sheep, rams and goats. Most of the goats were single colored. Jacobs dream was that all of the goats were spotted and speckled. The Lord told him that this was how He would repay him. He would give him all the spotted and speckled and multicolored sheep. He told Laban that this is what he wanted. This way, when it was time for Jacob to depart, there would be no discrepancy to what was Jacob’s and what was Laban’s. Jacob said that this would be his wages. Laban was thinking that that wouldn’t be much so he agreed to it. Laban even said, “Oh, would it be so.”

37 Now Jacob took for himself rods of green poplar and of the almond and chestnut trees, peeled white strips in them, and exposed the white which was in the rods. 38 And the rods which he had peeled, he set before the flocks in the gutters, in the watering troughs where the flocks came to drink, so that they should conceive when they came to drink. 39 So the flocks conceived before the rods, and the flocks brought forth streaked, speckled, and spotted. 40 Then Jacob separated the lambs, and made the flocks face toward the streaked and all the brown in the flock of Laban; but he put his own flocks by themselves and did not put them with Laban’s flock. Genesis 30:37

This is an odd imagery. Many times, when God gives us a dream, we are impressed by what we saw. We are excited and think it is going to be so wonderful. We can’t wait for it to come to pass. We don’t understand that there is the part of keeping that vision in front of us—keeping the dream alive—doing something concreate that opens the door for what God is giving from heaven to come into our natural world.

About a year ago, the Lord impressed upon me that He wanted to release the Jacob blessing upon the house of Jubilee. He wants to move people from captivity, into prosperity.

In this story of Jacob, this was a six year journey. From when he had the conversation with Laban to the time he leaves as a very wealthy, prosperous man, it takes six years. He diligently creates for himself, and for the sheep, an image of what he is looking for to happen.

God knows how long you’ve been stuck in Laban’s house. He knows how long you have been delayed in your dream. He knows how many times your wages have been changed and the deal renegotiated. And, just when you thought you were about to have breakthrough, something came up and said, “No, no, no, that’s not the way it’s going to work.”

When Jacob recounts his journey to his wives, he said, “We’ve got to leave because it’s time for me to go. The favor’s not here.”

He said, “Your father changed my wages ten times, but God saw and God would not allow him to keep me from my destiny.”

We need to remember this. God sees you. God knows your day. One of the biggest lies over the body of Jesus, in the current moment, especially those who carry promise for any length of time (5 years to decades) is that we see ourselves in the captivity and we are trying to free ourselves from the captivities so we can go on and do our dream. When the truth be told, in the bible, all dreams are born in captivity and birthed from captivity. It is not that we have to get everything together and then go do what we are called to do. In fact, it is often that we go into being undone.

We finally say, “Lord, have Your way. We can’t do it on our own. We don’t care if You ever do it.”

Suddenly, God is springing forth. He is taking an 87 yr old man and saying, “You are having a hard time journeying with Me. It has been a big journey. You left Iraq and moved with your dad to Turkey. Your dad died and I said, ‘Keep coming with Me.’ Now you’ve come all the way down into Israel, today. You just freed your nephew from a big mess and you’ve got other people upset at you, and you’re now coming to terms with your own personal issues. You don’t have an heir. And you’re stuck in that. I want to take you out of being stuck. I want you to come out of your tent and look up at the sky. You see how many stars are
up there Abraham? If you can count how many stars, that’s how many kids you are going to have.”

That willingness and yieldedness to come out of your stuff and let God paint a picture of the new future is what God defines as faith. That faith, He defines as righteousness. When seen on earth, it is what is more valued in heaven, when one of us, in whatever situation we feel ourselves buried in or stuck in, we allow God to take us out of that current place and open our eyes to see something.

God always does this… you have to know this about your Father: He never answers your prayer with just what you want. When it comes time for the answer, it is much more than you can imagine. That itself is even an affront. We are struggling and we just want to feel okay one day. God talks about having a healing ministry to the world. But, we are wanting to just have enough money to finally pay off our credit card. Then God says, “I’m going to allow you to be a stream of wealth to send people to the nations with My gospel.”

The problem in that, is that this is stepping into a realm of Holy Spirit that only Holy Spirit, Himself can carry. Yet, we have to keep coming back and yielding—keep coming back into the Presence. But we have had these promises so long that they themselves (as we go out to look at the stars) and they mock us. We feel like they are laughing at us because here we are still….

In Abraham’s case, he didn’t do too well. He had the vision. He shared the story and he tried to resource it with his own strength—He came up with Ishmael. It opened the door of conflict and strife in his home that lasted for 13 years. It continued after Isaac was born when the two could not grow up together.

Everyone in the bible who ends up becoming the recipient of something supernatural and wonderful in their life, will fail many times trying to bring it into fruition. When it finally does come into fruition, they will know one thing for sure: It is not happening because of me. When you have that conclusion, then it makes it easier for God to start expediting what He is trying to bring.

Let me bring you up to speed on what has happened to me in the past two weeks. Preparing for Pentacost Sunday, on Memorial Day weekend, the Lord brought me to look at this basic little fact about how our military over the years:

When we would liberate a country, we would occupy it so that liberty could continue whether it was Japan, Germany, Italy, Korea or even Kuwait. We would retain forces, so that the liberty that we brought to the nation would be sustained. After Vietnam, many of the ideas of benevolent United States, and all of our feelings about trying to go and help another people (It’s none of our business) we shifted our mindset so that we go in, do a job, and get out. But that creates a vacuum. Once a vacuum is created, we remove one power and another power starts.

So, the Lord brought my attention to this. In Wikipedia, you can read that we have 50,000 troops in Germany today. So that’s why Germany isn’t uprising anymore. It’s not that Germany’s trying to, it’s that there always continued a strong presence. Because whatever liberates you must stay in place for liberty to continue. Now this was not about American Foreign Policy. This was for my little mind to get the idea…

God said, “This is the same mindset the church carries. The church goes to set something free and they want it to have freedom to become what it is. Then, out of Luke 11, the Lord started talking to me that they don’t realize something. When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, that unclean spirit finds no place to rest and then says, “I want to go back to the house where I left.” And when he goes back he finds it empty, clean and put in order. But, because there’s nothing in place where he was, he says, “I’ll go get seven of my more evil friends and come back into that man and secure my place, because I don’t want to be driven out again.” Then the state of the man is seven times worse than he was before he got delivered the first time.

So the religious mind, the Pharisees, were contending with Jesus. They said, “You are only doing this show of power by Beelzebub. You’re in cahoots with the devil.”

Jesus said, “That’s stupid. If the devil drives out the devil, then the devil’s divided. And if you’re divided, you are going to fall.” He said, in Luke, “But if I do this by the finger of God (Matthew calls it the Spirit of God) then, this is not Satan, this is actually the kingdom of God coming. This Kingdom that is coming because One stronger than the one who presently is here, will be taking over and removing Satan’s power.”

So the next thing that began to capture my mind was that Holy Spirit was the One that can dismantle hell, and must stay in place once hell has been dismantled, so that the liberty that He brought can continue.

Last Sunday, I shared about being filled with the Holy Spirit. For me, if I maintain in a quiet time, (so that I go into prayer to encounter His presence). As anyone who knows God in secret, you will recognize it in public. You are only as big, as you are in private with God, before man. You cannot be something you are not. You can be a lot of things you are not in front of people. But one thing you will never feel the witness to validate, is that if you are not with God in the secret, you will not have Him be there with you in the public. So, a lot of secret prayer brings open rewards. We are responsible, each of us, to have a quiet life. Secret time. Devotional life. Our own prayer time where we go into the scripture, we go into the presence, and we encounter God.

The second dimension of that is to go into corporate time. We can go into church and we can say, “Oh gosh, that’s not me. I feel so bad about me. This was so hard to get here. What’s the use of it?” There is real importance to it. Because when we come together, as a people, we are saying, “We are a body, and without God in the midst of us, all of us will fall apart.”

So, we collect ourselves back into a setting and the Spirit of God begins to show up. You are worshiping and suddenly something dawns across your mind. Strength starts to come. You hear something you hadn’t heard before. All of this is so that:

  • We can grow up together into Him who is the head.
  • We can be a habitation for God in the Spirit.
  • We need to be together corporately.

We are pressing in so God can be with us—my quiet time and my corporate time. When I’m in quiet or corporate:

  • I am always looking to have an influence moment.
  • I want Holy Spirit to touch me.
  • I want to be aware of His presence.
  • I want to feel righteousness, peace and joy.
  • I want to sense the word of the Lord.
  • I want to feel the lift.
  • I want to feel the wind.
  • I want to become aware of His presence.

And once I’m aware of His presence, the next thing I do is yield to that. I give permission. Have you ever been in prayer and a scripture go across your mind? That is the Holy Spirit. Go look at it. I used to be so frustrated, and frustrate my life, because I would go to prayer with an agenda and God would go by, a feeling, and a peace. I would be inclined to go there, but I wanted to stay on task, so I would say, “Lord, I’ll come back to that after I get done with my prayer list.” But, every time—it was gone because it was for that moment. He is greater than my prayer list. He is greater than my To Do list. He is greater than my worship schedule. He wants that yieldedness. Then, I go with Him.

But not every time is it like that. Sometimes I am in the midst of an awful narrator. The evil narrator called Satan. The accuser. He reinterprets my life for me. He loves to do it when I go to be with God. That is why going to church can be the hardest journey of the week because Satan is the one telling you, “Why go? It’s not going to matter. Who cares? Your life is washed up. They’ll probably talk about something else that doesn’t matter to you anyway. Blah, blah, blah, blah.”

When that evil narrator will not shut up, and I can’t get myself disconnected from that conversation, I have learned that I have to go into contending. I’ve got to let my voice come up and start saying,

  • Thus says the Lord, this is truth and that is not.
  • You are a liar.
  • I will overcome.
  • I will be victorious.
  • I will be triumphant.”

You must do this! Beloved, you’ve just got to do this. Once you are in there, hold that place. You will feel the pleasure of heaven come. The reason? Because heaven knows how hard it is for you to say, “Jesus is good” at this current moment you are in. You can’t correlate it or make sense that this is good in the current moment.

So, quiet time, corporate time, influence time, contending time to healing time, or exchange time. There is something God wants to do every time I’m with Him. He wants to touch me. Take out of me the thing that is hurting me and put in me the thing that is healing me. He wants there to be a substance…something has happened. It’s what creates the glow in the face. It’s what puts the song back in your life. It puts the skip in your step. It makes you happy. It makes you full of joy. There’s a sense of peace and rest, “Ok, I can walk through the day. Ok, nothing’s changed out here, but I’m going to go ahead and walk through it as though everything has changed.”

It is faith, it is hope, it is love, it’s God.

You want that to be imprinted, to affect you and to touch you. And again, Last week, I got way under the influence of the Holy Spirit sharing all of that. I got in the car. I was driving home and I remembered this because I kept touching on loss and pain in relationship to God coming in gain and victory. And the Lord spoke to me and several times since then.

What He said was, “Never, do not minimize the pain, the loss, the grief, the sorrow, the suffering My body walks through to come to the place of connection and victory. It is of greatest value. It is the treasure that
I hold dear to Me. I know they embarked on a journey toward Me and this is what came against them. This is what it has cost them. They have now had their life interpreted by hell to say this is because I don’t love them and I’m not pleased with them and they ought to curse Me and die. They are walking through their own Job experience and they hold Me still even though it’s hard to understand what’s going on. It is something of real value to heaven.”

I was with a group of our sisters and I was about to pray with them when God said, “You need to acknowledge their suffering. You need to recognize their sorrow. You need to acknowledge that they set on a journey to follow Me and now it has cost them a lot”.

Have you had something cost you loss following Jesus? Pain? Misinterpretation? It is not the dream where you wanted to be? Earlier this week, the Lord was saying to me,

  • Grief is the door into glory.
  • Loss is the door to gain.
  • Defeat is the door to victory.
  • Trials is the door to perfected faith.
  • It’s just on and on and on.

So, I was walking and talking with the Lord, and I asked Him, “Lord, I understand what You are saying of the substance of what is being exchanged –sorrow for joy, mourning for joy, ashes for beauty, shame for honor, I understand that is how it happens, but if it is just that, I’m telling everyone that they are going to have to go through an awful experience to have an awesome experience. That is works. It is still works”…Everyone suffer a bunch and you will get some glory? My wife, Cammy accused me, for a while, of having a suffering doctrine.

You try to make sense of the senseless. Ever try to make sense of the senseless? God does not give answers, He gives revelation of Himself. You want an answer, He is going to show up. You say, “I want an answer so I don’t need You, Jesus, I want an answer. Holy Spirit, thank You, but I’d rather have an answer.”

You’re going to miss the answer because He is the answer. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Everything is about Him. Everything is happening because of Holy Spirit’s invasion of the planet. Jesus is the Lamb of God. He is everything. Holy Spirit is the power of God. He is doing everything. We are the body of Christ where He is going to be seen in the planet. We are not going to be the shining ones of victory with our own TV shows and red carpets. There will be a few and it’s wonderful, but it isn’t what God is trying to model. He is trying to model the people that are under great harassment and yet live inside internal victory. He is trying to model the people that persecution is driving them out of their place they were called to hold and yet they still keep releasing, letting go and forgiving every one doing it to them. He wants to model Jesus Christ and the way He carried and the victory He won. Holy Spirit is doing something that is counter-intuitive to our soul. So when Holy Spirit starts moving our soul starts screaming.

So, I was asking the Lord, “Help me on this”. He took me to 2 Corinthians 1:

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort2 Corinthians 1:3

If you will allow, take out of the closet, the confusing, painful, sorrowful grief, whatever it is that you wish could be resolved. Then go on and just open that part of your life to only God, not to anyone else, Just God. Just give Him access. I believe the Holy Spirit wants to touch, and go in that area, because there is something of an exchange taking place, without us knowing.

4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2 Corinthians 1:3

So, I’m in a pressurized place and I’m crying out to God, “Help me.” I want Him to get me out of it. He wants to come to me in it. I want Him to change everything on the outside. He wants to work on the inside. I’m trying to get something to be different and He’s giving me something inside that makes everything different even if nothing changes. That which He gives me of comfort, I can now begin to release to other people. I carry something of substance.

5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ. 6 Now if we are afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effective for enduring the same sufferings which we also suffer. Or if we are comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. 2 Corinthians 3:5-6

Apostle Paul had a father’s heart. He was saying, “If we’re going through something, it’s so you can have comfort when you go through it. And if we’re having comfort, it’s so you can have comfort. He wasn’t advocating for anybody to walk the same steps we are. ‘You’ve got to prove you love God and suffer a little.’ None of that stuff. He was one who said, “Jesus is doing something. Hell is coming against us and
heaven is coming to us. Hell is trying to displace us; heaven is trying to build a home inside of us. And everything we’re obtaining of God is for you. So take hold of it.”

7 And our hope for you is steadfast, because we know that as you are partakers of the sufferings, so also you will partake of the consolation. 8 For we do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, of our trouble which came to us in Asia: that we were burdened beyond measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life. 2 Corinthians 3:7-8

Now I know that most of the time in the New Testament when Jesus talks about lay down your life; let your life go to the cross; deny your life, He’s talking about psceuke – the soul of man, so I thought for sure that he was despairing of his soulish life and no…it’s just his pure life. He was saying, “We’d like to die. Get me out of here. I can’t go on.” That’s to the brink. This is the apostle who wrote 2/3 of the New Testament saying that “We came into such pressurized life that we wanted to die.”

but we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:

Now, consider this for a moment. All of us young and old, it doesn’t matter how long we have walked with the Lord or how old we are today. We will experience sentences of death which will be however that looks, however that feels, however that is, but the intent is not something to earn. It’s really to learn. And what you’re trying to learn is – where are you resourcing? What do you pull from to meet the challenge? Do you use your gifting? Do you use your charisma? Do you use your strength? Do you use your money? Do you use your talent? Do you use your will? All of those things will continue to invite prolonged experience of death. Miserable death. Some of us are so stubborn that we just won’t yield our place. Like someone said, “If Abraham had been religious when he went to kill Isaac and God said, ‘Stop’ he would have said, ‘I rebuke you devil. I’ve got to do what God told me.’” On the bottom of the mountain He said, “Kill your son.” On the top of the mountain, He said, “Don’t do it.” Your Daddy is wind. He’s moving. He’s shifting. All of it is for my heart. He wants my heart. And He knows I’m a liar at best because that’s my father who I was born into, in the world with. And He knows I’m living under fear. And He knows that I would do anything to try to protect myself from coming to that point of death. He knows that I’m under the terror of dying, so therefore my enemy satan controls me, so He has no choice but to say, “I love you so incredibly. Feel My love. Let it drive out all the fear. And whatever fear cannot be fully driven out, the rest will take care of at the cross.” That point of conflict; that point of suffering; that point of struggle; that point of contest… I say, “Why would You even allow it?” And He says, “Because I don’t want you to trust yourself.” And the more talented and privileged and blessed we are, the harder it is to yield that and say, “Wow, even that is not Jesus. And even that is not good enough for Jesus. It’s got to be You.”

but we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us; ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.

We, in America, love the gospel of preservation—keep things from sin – keep things from death – keep things from going the wrong way. God has a gospel of resurrection! He accesses the place where it went the wrong way, where you couldn’t keep it from sin, where it just went bad. We shut everything down in us. “No, that’s not right, that’s not good, that’s not right, that’s not good…” We get a stinky smell because we are willfully gripping truth, and applying ourselves to be and do. We either go hypocritical in our lifestyle or we just get narrow and smaller, from the world we live in.

Meanwhile the world continues to go out of control with no one addressing it, other than pointing the finger and saying, “Don’t do that. You shouldn’t be here. You can’t do this.” They won’t listen to that. We can’t continue in it.

God has no real choice but to say, “I’ve got to access the planet. I need it to come through broken people, bruised people, defeated people, wounded people, people who could not make it work, but now found Me. I am now accessing the world through them and they are going around giving liberty, saying,

‘If God can save me, He can save you. If God can heal me, He can heal you.’”

The goal, if I am in a sentence of death, is to die, to yield, to recognize that I can’t do it. It is like AA. I’m powerless against this thing. I cannot overcome. The lie that is in the earth is that you can actually pull it together. Even as a Christian you can pull it together. It doesn’t give you permission to just quit becoming the person God called you to be. It is actually, just the beginning point where the death now opens the door for resurrection. And the resource for everything confronting you is not you, but God.

Let’s now go back to The Holy Spirit. There’s only one Holy Spirit. There are many sons now, Jesus being the first born, but there is only one Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit came because of Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection,

  • To multiply Christ in the earth
  • To become fruitful amongst His believers
  • To influence the world
  • To shift us from the carnal mindset to a spiritual one

He’s huge! He delights in chaos, not for chaos’ sake, but He’s never intimidated by it. Welcomed in the place of darkness, He will brood until He redefines the place of darkness to light. He can take any evil thing in your life and transform it into good. He can take the worst thing that ever happened to you, and through the process of discovery of Jesus Christ there, you will one day thank God that He led you through that
journey. This is the God Holy Spirit. Because all He carries with Him is the victory of Jesus Christ! The victory of Jesus Christ is accessible and applicable in any moment, any situation, and at any time. Anyone can be healed at any moment and anyone delivered at any moment; anyone brought into a revelation of God at any moment! He’s never hopeless. He is the most hope-filled Person you will ever meet!

Optimistic. He looks at you and says, “I can do something beautiful here.” Looks at your circumstances that you bemoan and says, “Oh, I love this kind of stuff.” Looks at ashes and says, “All I see is beauty.”

People asked, “Michael Angelo, how do you make these statues of beauty out of stones?” He says, “I don’t make them, I just see it in the stone and free it from the stone.”

Holy Spirit doesn’t look at you and say, “OOHH, I’m so sorry! God, I’ve got to go pray! You almost took My faith away! You had such potential. You could have been wonderful. Now you’re awful. (Boo hoo.)”

There is something greater than creation—it is called Redemption. It is another species on the planet. We are not even of this world. We don’t even understand what we have become through Jesus Christ.

And, it is not sustained now by law, works and keeping all things wonderful. We employ those to try to serve God to fail miserably because the sting of death is the law. And, the strength of the law is sin. We keep compounding it and keep trying to get out of it. We won’t surrender, or recognize that, “I am powerless here but Jesus is powerful!

When we finally fall on our back, give up and cry out, God comes and says, “Come on!” That Is why you always feel the sense of no condemnation when Holy Spirit encounters you in those points of defeat. Instead you begin to feel encouragement. But we think, “Great, thanks. Give me another chance and I promise I won’t mess it up this time.” …Yes, you will.

We can’t do this thing. God is more than able to do this thing. Part of the thing is we have to disengage this heavy focus and yield to who Holy Spirit really is, so He can continue to bring freedom to where He brought freedom to. The problem with Holy Spirit is, that He is a jolly Guy. He is happy, faith-filled, full of hope, full of joy, and full of peace.

He started to speak with me. He told me that I make Him laugh. “You give me so much pleasure. You are fun to be with”. My response was, “What? All I know is I have to go to church right now and I don’t feel adequate right now.” He said, “I just love the way you worry over everything.”

“What? Why would that delight You?”

“Why wouldn’t that delight Me?”

“But, aren’t You concerned that I might mess up?”

“What would it matter? Jesus did it all already. You are so much fun to be with”

I said, “What do You mean? I’m not fun to be with.”

He said, “Yes, you are. I love being in your humanity. I love the way you try so hard and fail so greatly. It’s fun!”

I was hearing this from a different perspective. He was shifting my brain. He was making me release what I was holding so hard, through Him having pleasure in my humanity.

I asked Him, “Where are we going with this?

His response was, “Basically, you get so serious and so focused, that you could even give God a migraine. You are so serious about minding the P’s and Q’s.

So, here is the problem, for me. I am about 39 years in Jesus. I was saved by the Holy Spirit. I was plucked out of a world I was in and placed in a world I was to learn, all by His power. But then, I grew in the knowledge of the word and the reactivation of myself—toward righteousness instead of rebellion. I just started compounding the same problem I had pulled in righteousness, because I was still resourcing self to do righteousness, as I was to do rebellion. The journey of this is that you get tight, really focused, and angry. You live in bitterness and resentment and thinking that everyone is your problem. You feel no one is giving you an opportunity. You watch a bunch of people going up on the platform and you wonder why no one asked you to go up. Who are they?

You get tight and complain to God that you hate this.

His response is, “I do too. Come, let me tickle you like a little kid.” We want Him to stop because we are serious. He keeps tickling and you keep telling Him to stop. Doesn’t He know that we are going to save the world? But, if you ever allow that joy, that peace or laughter or even the honest breakdown of boohoo.

The liberty that starts coming is a liberty we don’t possess. Only Holy Spirit possess liberty! Only Holy Spirit is free! This is because He came to bring us Jesus and only Jesus is the One Who made us free! Every time He comes, He starts to not…behave. He has been doing this to me. The other day when I was trying to exercise I began playing with my grandson, laughter came to me. Instead of getting upset because I couldn’t exercise like I wanted to. Laughter just kept increasing. I thought, “I don’t think it is appropriate to laugh when you are doing Palates.” But, it was Holy Spirit and just kept laughing. My grandson and I were just laughing and laughing when Cammy came down the stairs to see what was going on.

This is just how Holy Spirit is. But, at the same time, He never minimalizes our grief. If we live in our grief, He will guard it because it is precious.
