It’s time to look up!
When I set my eyes on Jesus, I look up! I look up because Jesus Christ is seated at the right hand of God in heavenly places far above. I see Jesus in His perfection! I meditate on His glorified High Priestly ministry. I see Jesus where He is seated waiting for the Father to make all His enemies His footstool.
Looking up is our redemption. Jesus walked on earth in unbroken union and fellowship with His Father, which He cultivated daily with prayer and the word of God. He held a confession before God, carrying Him through the trial before Pontus Pilate.
His confession was the Word of God concerning Him.
His submission was to the scriptures being fulfilled.
His faith was in the Father raising Him from the dead, His confession always included, “And the third day, He will rise again.”
We too have an unbroken union with Christ, in Christ. We too hold a confession that is cultivated with daily prayer and the word of God. Keeping our eyes on Jesus, allows us to live from above and not beneath, speaking His truth is our confession of hope.
Our hope is in Jesus and what He is bringing forth in our lives and His entire body. Our faith is in the Father’s resurrection of Jesus, so our faith and hope are in God.
Here are three passages that encourage me to set my eyes on Jesus in His glory:
He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you who through Him believe in God who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. 1 Peter 1:20, 21
But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone. Hebrew 2:9
If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Ghrist in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. Colossians 3:1-4
