As we prepare for Labor Day Weekend, let’s enter His Rest
Psalm 46 has been a favorite Psalm of mine for years. It begins with our confidence in God amid great upheavals and then leads us to the river that makes glad the city of our God. Here, in the Holy place of His tabernacle, God is in her midst. God shall help her at the break of dawn, even as the nations raged, and kingdoms were moved. He utters His voice; He is with us; He is our refuge.
Then we move to the works of the Lord, who has made desolations in the earth. Yes, but He also…
He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two; He burns the chariots in the fire. Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! Psalms 46:9
In my intercession, I have been drawn to these decrees of the Lord’s works. I see the Lord making wars to cease, breaking the bow, cutting the spear in two, and burning the chariots. Of course, we have much greater weaponry, but God is greater. This has put me on the offensive in prayer, calling for a great outpouring of God’s love in the Middle East. I see our nation coming out of hate into love, and the election being His kingdom coming and His will being done. I see the maturity of His church into His glory, victory, and overcoming reign.
Perhaps I am naïve, or maybe I am being called up into His ability. Either way, my prayers have gotten bigger, I am asking for more, not focusing on the problem, but on the One who is Lord of the whole earth.
The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Psalm 46:1
