Our hearts are either the throne for our Lord or our idols
When Jesus sent a letter to the Laodiceans in Revelation 3, He concluded His call to action by saying,
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. Revelation 3:20
Jesus seeks to know us and for us to know Him. Hearing His voice, followed by opening the door of our heart to welcome Jesus, is the essence of union and being known. The exhortation given in Psalm 95 is repeated three times in Hebrews, Chapters 3 and 4.
Therefore, the Holy Spirit says: “Today if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of trial in the wilderness, where your fathers tested Me, and tried Me, and saw My works forty years. Therefore I was angry with that generation, and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, and they have not known My ways,’ So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’” Hebrews 3:7-11
- Bible Reading softens our hearts as we submit to the truth of God’s word in abiding.
- Prayer softens our hearts as we approach the Lord in Christ with a true heart.
- Assembling Together softens our hearts as we come together to practice loving one another with a pure heart.
- Eating Together softens our hearts as we welcome one another in the breaking of bread.
In all these, Jesus is present and speaking. And He comes and dines with us.
