Ten virgins all took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five were wise and five were foolish. The wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps and the foolish took their lamps and no extra oil. We all know the story; the bridegroom was delayed, and all ten virgins fell asleep. At midnight the cry was heard, “Behold the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!”
“Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.” The foolish virgins cried. “No,” said the wise virgins, “there won’t be enough for us and you, go and buy for yourselves.” The foolish went to buy and while they we gone the bridegroom came; those who were ready went in with him to the wedding and the door was shut.
“Lord, Lord, open to us!” The foolish virgins pleaded, but the bridegroom answered, “I do not know you.”
Ten virgins, all slept, all heard the cry and woke up. The wise had oil they had brought for their lamps, the foolish didn’t. The foolish demanded “give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.” The wise said, “No.”
Are we ready? The Lord is coming quickly, which is “suddenly”, not necessarily at a day or time when know, but His arrival is suddenly. Prayer, scripture reading, and being filled with the Holy Spirit are of utmost importance today. This parable is found in Matthew 25:1-13
