The story of Job is about God’s double portion!

Why would God point out Job to Satan? It was to move Job from self-righteousness maintained in sacrifice into a relationship maintained by God. That’s a big answer to say, God wanted Job to discover what he would not see in his relationship of service and sacrifice.

God wanted to show Job His compassion and mercy and to bring Job into His double portion. God chose Job as an example of the blessing of endurance into transformation. God allowed Satan access, Job held to his integrity, and Job’s friends brought satanic counsel, leaving Job accused and attacked. Job spoke well of God, but his friends did not.

Job begins with a life of integrity maintained in sacrifice, offering continually burnt offerings for His sons and their possible sins. At the end of Job, God commands Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar, to bring a burnt offering and then have His servant Job to pray for them, for God will accept Job’s prayer.

Something wonderful had happened. Job had been transformed out of religion into relationship, out of pain, grief, and dark counsel, into repentance in dust and ashes. Job saw what he could not see before and entered into what he could not enjoy before God’s provision of righteousness, provided for Him by God.

Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and see the end intended by the Lord — that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful. James 5:11

And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for His friends. Indeed, the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. Job 42:10
