What is the first fruit of inheritance? It’s trust. Some portions of inheritances are even called “Trust Funds.” In Christ, we are His inheritance and He is ours. He has been appointed heir of all things; and He is dividing the spoils among the strong.
Sonship is paramount to inheritance. Knowing our identity as sons (both male and female), we can rest in our inheritance in Christ and His in us. We have been given an inheritance in Christ, having been predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the council of His will. That means we don’t get to choose our inheritance, but we can’t lose it either. It’s reserved in heaven for us— incorruptible, undefiled, and it does not pass away.
Trust is the fruit of knowing my future has already been given and cannot be taken away. No matter what I have gone through, go through, or will go through, my inheritance is sure. So much so, that when we believe in Jesus, we are given the Holy Spirit of promise to seal us in our inheritance. The Holy Spirt is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession—that’s us. We are the redeem of the Lord!
