Thanksgiving is the culmination of our faith.
So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? Luke 17:17
The week of Thanksgiving is the best time to return to the Lord with our thanks and give Him glory.
Ten lepers stood afar off and cried to Jesus “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” Jesus saw them and said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” As they went, they were cleansed. That’s a great story but it doesn’t end here.
And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan. So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner? Luke 17:15-18
What happened to the other nine?
Maybe they went to the priests? Maybe they went home to show their families their healing? Maybe they just kept going on with life. Whatever they did, it had not brought them back to Jesus to give glory and thanks.
What Jesus says to the Samaritan next is of great importance, “And He said to him, ‘Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.’” Luke 17:19
Evidently returning to give thanks is the perfection of faith, and with thanksgiving having been given, you can go your way into life with the blessing you have received.
This Wednesday, November 27th at 6:00 pm is our Night of Giving Thanks. Here, we will glorify the Lord and give thanks for all He has done in our lives. Let’s return and give thanks to the Lord. I believe that it will seal God’s blessing in our lives and send us forward on our way.
