In this age of connectivity many feel all alone, but God has not left us.
Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day. Genesis 32:24
Alone with God is where exchanges take place, blessings are obtained, strength is renewed, and promises are given. God alone is all-sufficient. When we become aware of His Spirit and Truth, we move from the temporal wranglings into His perfect peace. We become aware of God when we seek Him.
David was a man after God’s heart, but after a long season of being chased by Saul for years, David gave up hope of anything changing and even saw that he would perish someday by the hand of Saul. So, he left Judah, went to live in Gaza of the Philistines, and began a double life. He deceived the king of Gath/Gaza and almost was forced into a war against Israel. His compromise cost him everything. His men in their grief spoke of stoning him, and David was greatly distressed. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. 1 Samuel 30:6b
Jacob, fearing for his life and the lives of his family at the news of Esau coming to meet him with four hundred men, sought how to appease Esau with division and gifts. But at the end of all this, Jacob was left alone with God. Here He found the blessing and God changed the heart of his brother Esau from murder to reconciliation.
Jesus, knowing that He was soon to be arrested, took with Him, Peter, James, and John and asked them to watch with Him. Jesus went about a stone’s throw and fell on His face, and prayed saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” Matthew 26:39 Jesus rose to find his disciples sleeping from sorrow and returned two more times to be alone with God. After three hours of prayer, Jesus arose victoriously, yielded to the Father’s will, and was arrested. The disciples fled.
My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him. Psalm 62:5
