Blow the trumpet in Zion, Consecrate a fast, Call a sacred assembly. Joel 2:15

This Wednesday, June 1st, we are calling a sacred assembly to pray and fast for our nation, and the uncovering that we are experiencing.

Joel gave instructions to Israel after their years of plenty became consumed by an army of locust that God sent. We are in a similar experience as a nation, with sky high inflation, a recession, and the mass killings in Texas, we need Jesus to save us.

Joel spoke these words, “Let the priests, who minister to the Lord, weep between the porch and the altar; let them say, ‘Spare Your people, O Lord, and do not give Your heritage to reproach, that the nations should rule over them. Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?’’” Joel 2:17

Spare means to cover just as reproach is to uncover. God withdraws His covering inside of covenant to discipline His people to return to Him. Our prayers on Wednesday will not be against others but for us to ask God to cover us His people. We can find fault forever, and only strengthen the sins that remain, or we can take ownership that we “Left the door open.”

I hope you will join us in the sanctuary or from your home altar as we cry out for His covering mercy, confessing our sins, proclaiming Jesus’ righteousness, as we repent of our self-righteousness. My prayer is, “Me first.” I need to return; I need to forgive and be forgiven; I need God’s mercy.

Wednesday Service will be our Sacred Assembly as we declare our returning to the Lord, God’s mercy over His church and our nation.

Then the Lord will be zealous for His land, And pity His people. Joel 2:18
