“Then God opened her eyes, and she saw…” (Genesis 21:19a)

The story of Hagar, as she found herself rejected and cast out of her home, is important because there are things to be seen that we aren’t seeing yet.Hagar and her son Ishmael were cast out of their home with Abraham.

They traveled into the desert and ran out of water. In despair, Hagar she said, “I can’t bear this anymore!”

Then she went and sat down across from him at a distance of about a bowshot; for she said to herself, “Let me not see the death of the boy.” So she sat opposite him, and lifted her voice and wept. And God heard the voice of the lad. Then the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said to her, “What ails you, Hagar? Fear not, for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is. Then God opened her eyes, and she saw… (Genesis 21:16-19)

We may find ourselves where our promise has been discarded. The only thing left for us to do is put it aside and let it die.

God gave hope to Hagar by opening her eyes. When we come out of a situation, we have to gain a new hope. Hagar’s hope had been connected to Abraham but now she was out of that house. She got up, and then God opened her eyes to see a well of water. She couldn’t see it before (or perhaps at that moment it had been created by God). Either way, it was a miracle! This prompted movement.

It’s time to repent—to see and think differently. Acknowledge where your loss or sorrow is. God responds to Faith in His promises. Your answer may be right under your nose, or He will create it for you. Either way, it’s God. God redeems grace. He never sees a promise He can’t keep. He hears our prayers and will speak to you again and restore hope and cause you to see resource or a way out.
