Jesus prayed to the Father, “I have given them Your word and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

Truth sanctifies us into Jesus’ glory. The word of God is truth. Jesus overcame the evil one on the Mount of Temptation by quoting scripture. “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God’.” Matthew 4:4

  • Jesus overcame the lust of the flesh.

Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’” Matthew 4:7

  • Jesus overcame the lust of the eyes.

Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’” Matthew 4:10

  • Jesus overcame the pride of life.

‘For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. 1 John 2:16
