In reading 2 Peter Chapter 1 yesterday, I was moved by the phrase “know and established in the present truth.” 2 Peter 1:12b The word “present” does not refer to “today’s” truth, as though truth is evolving, but “present” as in “to be near.”

Jesus said, the Father is seeking those who will worship Him in spirit and truth. Jesus prayed that we would be kept from the evil one, asking the Father to “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” John 17:17, 18 Finally Paul writes in 2 Thessalonians Chapter 2, about the coming of the lawless one, with all unrighteous deception, because they did not receive the love of the truth.

The Truth is Jesus. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Abiding in His living word causes us to know the truth. The Truth is our entire life and is inside Christ. The lie is that we can live without Christ.

Today, we read 2 Peter Chapter 2. Peter is writing this epistle because he knows he is going to depart soon.

  • Chapter One is the declaration of the present truth, the prophetic scriptures.
  • Chapter two is the coming deceptions and destructions.
  • Chapter three is his exhortation for us to hold our place in the truth, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, as we grow in grace and the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Apostle Peter is all grown up.
