Jesus came into the Temple and began to overthrow the tables used by those selling sacrificial animals and those changing currencies. He had done this before, when He first began His ministry, but it wasn’t received well. But this day was different!

Jesus had come into Jerusalem on the praises of the people. “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”, the people exclaimed all the way from the Mount of Olives through Jerusalem. Now in the Temple, the children were singing, “Hosanna!”

Jesus began to teach, heal and do many wonders. The Pharisees were furious. They had lost control, and they become indignant at the children’s praises.

and said to Him, “Do You hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes. Have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise’?” Matthew 21:16

Jesus of course was quoting Psalm 8:2

Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.

But He left out the part about “silencing the enemy and the avenger.” I guess He didn’t want to offend them. Truth was, it was the children’s praise that gave Jesus free reign in His Father’s Temple. As long as they praised; strength came, enemies were silenced, and the avenger stopped.

When we enter into our inheritance, praise will do the same for us. As we, in childlike faith and trust, begin to praise Jesus, He begins to reign. Light is shown in the darkness and we can hear clearly His voice of faith and encouragement. Healing comes as well as liberty and peace, and silence comes to our enemies.

Take praise with you this week, into every situation in which you enter. Let His peace reign. Let silence come to your enemies and the wonders of God appear in your midst.
