Two weeks ago, I found myself saying in a Wednesday night service, “The Holy Spirit has come to make Jesus famous!” I hadn’t planned to say it, but it sounded so good after I said it, that I had to say it again! “The Holy Spirit has come to make Jesus famous!” It felt even better the second time around. I don’t know, maybe I live too near to Hollywood, or maybe it is a more current word for “Glory” or “Glorified”? I think that’s it– a more current picture of why the Holy Spirit’s ministry is all about glorifying Christ. Jesus said the Holy Spirit would glorify Him: “He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you” (John 16:14, NKJV).

The Holy Spirit glorifies Jesus by taking what is in Christ Jesus and demonstrating it. He demonstrates Christ’s victory, His salvation, His healing, His deliverance, and all of redemption’s glory! The Holy Spirit declares (announces) what Jesus has accomplished. There really is no other way to experience Christ Jesus as Lord than through the Holy Spirit. Our natural eyes cannot see what only the Holy Spirit can reveal; neither can our ears hear, or hearts understand all that God has prepared for those who love Him (See 1 Corinthians 2:9, 10).

The Holy Spirit makes Jesus famous!

The Holy Spirit brings us everything that Jesus has ever given us through His resurrection. Again, He demonstrates Jesus’ salvation, healing, deliverance, joy, peace… everything Jesus has accomplished. This is how Jesus is made famous!

The Holy Spirit is the only One given by Jesus to demonstrate Christ Jesus and His victory. Jesus said He (Holy Spirit) would be the power of our witness, for He would testify of Jesus. What I am saying is the Holy Spirit came to make Jesus famous. Without the Holy Spirit, Jesus will not be made famous. Instead, left to our own humanity, we will always revert to persuasive words of human wisdom, where our faith would be in the wisdom of men instead of the power of God (See 1 Corinthians 2:1-5).

But God! But the Holy Spirit!

Jesus Himself was anointed by God with the Holy Spirit and with power and “went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him” (Acts 10:38). The result? Jesus became famous!

Matthew 4:23-25, my italics added: “And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them. Great multitudes followed Him—from Galilee, and from Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.”

The Name of Jesus WILL be Famous

Now, imagine with me, what will happen as the Holy Spirit comes again in the greatest outpouring of the Spirit—MAKING JESUS FAMOUS–as He announces everywhere our salvation in Christ, our victory in Christ… as He makes all of Jesus ours to receive? Jesus will be famous to us! Imagine next as the Holy Spirit demonstrates Jesus in our speech and preaching, with power and gifts, as people everywhere are healed, saved, and delivered. Jesus will be famous! The name of Jesus will be famous!

The Holy Spirit is coming to make Jesus famous. As He does, we will point all eyes to Jesus and HIS great name. Yes, God, may it be so…
